Botox FAQs

What is the purpose of Botox?

Botox improves your overall appearance by making fine lines, wrinkles, and folds in your skin less obvious. This treatment can be effective on some of your most frustrating wrinkles, including crow’s feet and the frown lines on your brow.

How does Botox work?

Botox contains a small amount of a highly purified botulinum toxin protein. When Dr. Roberts injects this protein into your skin, it reduces muscle activity in the area. When these muscles relax, your wrinkles and lines aren’t as noticeable.

Is Botox treatment painful?

During the injection, you may feel a slight pinch, but most patients are able to tolerate the procedure well and don’t report much, if any, pain. If you’re worried about pain during Botox treatment, Dr. Roberts may be able to use a topical anesthetic to keep you more comfortable.

How long do the results last?

After Botox treatment, the results usually begin to appear in 24-48 hours. For most patients, these results last for up to four to six months. When fine lines and wrinkles return, you can have another Botox treatment if desired.

Is the treatment safe?

The risks and side effects associated with Botox treatment are minimal. In about 3% of cases, patients notice drooping of their eyelids. In about 1% of cases, eyelid swelling occurs. Some of the other possible side effects of treatment with Botox include:

  • Dry eyes

  • Blurred vision

  • Neck pain

  • Headache

  • Dry mouth

  • Pain at the injection site

Very rarely, allergic reactions to Botox may occur. Dr. Roberts explains all of these possibilities in detail before you have your procedure.

Who should have Botox?

Botox is an ideal treatment option for patients who want to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles without surgery. Botox isn’t the best option for patients who want more dramatic results.

How much does the procedure cost?

The cost of your Botox procedure depends on the extent of your treatment. Because the treatment is generally considered cosmetic, it’s unlikely to be covered by your medical or dental insurance. However, there are some instances in which the cost of the treatment may be covered, i.e. migraine headaches, TMD myofacial pain etc. Contact us or request an appointment to be evaluated by Dr. Roberts. Payment plans may be available at SoCo Facial Esthetics.

*Individual results may vary.
